That Night
A soft kiss at the beginning of the end.
She couldn’t decide
what to do
with a kiss
he laid that young night
on the nape of her neck.
“Is it alright, sunshine?
If I take your hand?
Is it alright if I take
your whole life?”
“Is it the hour
your light must die,
my firefly?”
“Is it the season
your halo fades,
my summer knight?”
They were almost there,
though neither could say
where that night
was taking them.
They saw the future
in the right corners
of each other's eyes.
Her trembling lips
finally stilled.
His cold fingers
finally firm.
The highest peaks
levelled to the seas.
The alarms
too quiet
to sleep.
The promises
too loud
to keep.
She couldn’t decide
what to do
with a kiss
he laid that young night
on the nape of her neck.
When they counted stars
holding hands
and gifting their lives.
Long before their colors went grey.
Before the "not enough" years.
Before they stepped together
into that
other night.

About the death wish, and anhedonia... I think I understand. Nice lines, though.
