You’re into horror?

Andrea (Andy) Curran πŸŒ„'s avatar

I sure am 😁. Horror, sci-fi and fantasy are my top 3. Psychological horror is my favorite genre though. I’m a huge Stephen king fan

I loved King when I was a teenager. I tried to read him like a year ago and the main thought I had was "oh man, they overhyped the guy so terribly."

Of course there are pieces that still stay with me ("Long Walk", "Shawshank Redemption", "Cell"), but e.g. "Dark Tower" was so uneasy to read...

Since you're into psychological horror, considering you still have some time for me:

I think kings horror is overhyped some but his character building is unmatched. One of my favorite hidden gems is Duma Key. β€œApt student” is another short story that stuck wit me too. However The Dark Tower is my all time favorite, it mixes fantasy with horror and a little bit of the old west plus a lot of weird and strange. I’ll definitely check out the story you shared! I saved it, my day is a bit booked today but I’ll check it out as soon as I can! I’ve been really enjoying your style!

I'm aware there are some Dark Tower's superfans out there :)

I still managed to read three parts. It just seemed so stretched...

I adore your style too. It's all about distributing time between other writers, creating own stuff, day work, kids, ...

Haha yep! To add on my end a full time tech sector job, 5 cats and a drive to get out and build community doing writing workshops an open mics! Plus course creation for my coaching biz.

I want more of this story Chris!

Things I learn about my Substack besties… πŸ–€

I enjoy playing with horror. Definitely gonna do more, although now…

Seems like I have two collabs and another poem of my own on the way πŸ˜…

Yes! Can’t wait to read them. When they are done slide them over in my subscriber chat.

Will do, bro. Thanks for being such a wholesome fan πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

Really beautiful. The imagery is strikingly vivid. I loved it.

Thank you, buddy! πŸ–€

Disturbing. Mechanical. Human vs machine vibes

I like the opening hiss

Sensory elements do the trick, right?

Thanks, dewd-ette πŸ’›

You had me hooked from the first line. I’m in the mood to write some horror-y shit now…

Night Cracks's avatar

What stops you?

Just ignore Substack for a day and do it.

I promise not to shame you with @Hawtorn V. Rabot again.

Marissa Purdum's avatar

I have some horror-y shit in the works with HVR actually πŸ˜‚ though I’m slacking on it.

Night Cracks's avatar

Thingers crossed, dewd πŸ–€

I want to be next...

I hope the dystopian image in your text is an omen helping in exorcising the future, and not a herald!

Night Cracks's avatar

I'm afraid it's both.

The future terrifies me more than ever. I hope all those big brainz from Google, OpenAI, ... will soon admit they faced a wall, and they don't know how to develop AI any further.

That would be my prayer.

James Pagett Tollen's avatar

This piece sings of someone who's been thinking about AI a lot

Night Cracks's avatar

I have to. That’s how I make my living, friend.

I’m glad humans are still needed to pilot this devillish thing.

Without it…

James Pagett Tollen's avatar

Yeah, I hear you

Smutty Simmons's avatar

Fucking eerie

Night Cracks's avatar

Wait, what? Did I infect you with a body horror virus?

Smutty Simmons's avatar

When I tell you that writing this fucking erotic horror is challenging me… I hate it. It’s not good. I don’t think I’ll even finish it, let alone publish.

Night Cracks's avatar

Why are you doing it alone?

Smutty Simmons's avatar

I don’t know! I don’t think I’m really β€œdoing it” at all.

Then scream/spit/stomp on it. Throw it into that drawer (you know which one). Give it a while. Write your things.

It will cry for its mommy soon enough.

And I don't believe you'll be able to resist the "maternal" instinct.
